MasterCook 24 Ingredient List

The USDA no longer updates the legacy ingredient database that has been used for the past few decades. Going forward, they only update the branded foods database that contains brand name ingredients such as Lawry's Original Seasoned Salt, Lawry's Seasoned Pepper, Lawry's Seasoned Salt, Grey Poupon Country Dijon Mustard, Grey Poupon Harvest Coarse Ground Mustard, etc.

Numerous customers complained that MasterCook was missing many branded food items. So, MasterCook 24 includes all of the ingredients from MasterCook 2020, plus the USDA branded foods database. If you have a recipe that uses any of these branded food items, such as Lawry's Seasoned Pepper, the ingredient will automatically give proper nutritional analysis, since the ingredient is in MasterCook's ingredient database. Title case does not matter either. If your recipe has it as Lawry's seasoned pepper, it will automatically be recognized. MC expects the characters to be exact regardless of title case.

CHANGING MASTERCOOK'S INGREDIENT DATABASE FILE

When you select Ingredient List from the Tools menu you'll see the Ingredient List window.

You can scroll through the list to find an ingredient and click it to see a description below. Detailed nutrition information for the ingredient will appear to the right.

MasterCook 24 installs the MasterCook 2020 MC Ingredients.ing file if you would rather use that much smaller one instead.

Follow these steps:

  1. Close MasterCook 24 so it is not running.
  2. Open the MasterCook 24 MC Tools folder on your computer at this location if you used the default installation location:
    • C:\Users\Public\Documents\MasterCook 24\MC Tools
  3. Locate the MC Ingredients and MC20 Ingredients.  See the first screenshot below.
  4. Right-click on the MC Ingredients file and select Rename. Rename it to MC24 Ingredients. See the second screenshot below.
  5. Right-click on the MC20 Ingredients file and select Rename. Rename it to MC Ingredients. See the second screenshot below.
  6. Then start up MasterCook 24, and it will be using the much smaller file instead  -- the one you renamed as MC Ingredients.
