MXP Files

The MXP format is used by MasterCook 24. Simply double click on any MXP file on your computer, and MasterCook 24 will ask you which cookbook to import the recipes into. You can create a new cookbook or pick one from the list.

MXP files are recipe text only that are created when you export/remove recipes from the program. Depending on how the MXP file was made, it can have one or many recipes inside an MXP file. That is a very inefficient method though. Most people have backup copies of the cookbook files (MC2 & MCX) instead. See this:

Backing Up Files for the MasterCook Windows Products

and they simply add those to MasterCook as explained here:

Adding Cookbook Files to MasterCook 24

MASTERCOOK 4 AND EARLIER

The cookbook files for MasterCook 4 and earlier are MCF and MRF files. The MCF file contains the text of a cookbook. The MRF file contains only recipe photos. You can  open the MCF file with MasterCook 24, and it will automatically convert it into a MasterCook 24 cookbook file and use it automatically with the program.

MasterCook 2 files are also MCF and MRF files. However, they must first pass through MasterCook 4 before they can be opened with MasterCook 24. Open the MCF file with MasterCook 4, so it can create new MCF/MRF files. The MCF/MRF files that MasterCook 4 creates can be opened by MasterCook 24.
