Why are dietary exchanges missing in MasterCook 20 or greater?

MasterCook 15 and older use an ingredient database from the 1990s. That database has only 9,000+ ingredients. It contains only about 25 nutrients for those ingredients. Although that old database file contains dietary exchanges, it is missing many key nutrients such as sugar, phosphorus, etc. because in the 1990's those nutrients were not tracked.

On the other hand, MasterCook 20 and later contain a significant amount ingredients and provide data on over 100 nutrients. It is massive! MasterCook 20 has the USDA database that was current at the time of development.

Unfortunately, the USDA does not provide dietary exchanges in that database.

So, you have a choice. You can use the larger database that installs with MasterCook 20 and greater, or you can use the one from version 15 instead, knowing it is data that is from the 1990's. Attached at the end of this article is the MasterCook 15 database that you can use with MasterCook 22 or greater.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MASTERCOOK 22 USERS

Make sure the MasterCook 22 Windows program is not running on your computer.

Open this folder on your computer:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MasterCook 22\MC Tools

Rename the MC Ingredients.ing file to MC22 Ingredients.ing and save changes. Then download the attached MC Ingredients.ing file to your computer. Place a copy of it within the MC Tools folder.

Then startup MasterCook 22 and go to the Ingredient List. You will find it is only the MC 15 ingredients and its nutrients and values.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MASTERCOOK 24 USERS

Make sure the MasterCook 24 Windows program is not running on your computer.

Open this folder on your computer:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MasterCook 24\MC Tools

Rename the MC Ingredients.ing file to MC24 Ingredients.ing and save changes. Then download the attached MC Ingredients.ing file to your computer. Place a copy of it within the MC Tools folder.

Then startup MasterCook 24 and go to the Ingredient List. You will find it is only the MC 15 ingredients and its nutrients and values.
