If you have a previous version of MasterCook installed on the computer, when you install MasterCook 24 it will copy your content from the previous version into MasterCook 24.
If this did not appear to work, try refreshing MasterCook 24. Startup MasterCook 24. Go to the Cookbooks screen. Select Refresh File List from the Tools menu. Refreshing can make them appear.
If you refresh, and it did not solve the problem, then close MasterCook 24. Startup the previous version of MasterCook and go to its Cookbooks screen. Select Refresh File List from the Tools menu. Do your cookbooks appear in the previous version?
- If not, then MasterCook 24 cannot find them either. You should close the previous version of MasterCook. Startup MasterCook 24. Select Backup from the top of the screen. When the MasterCook Data Toolkit program appears, close the main MasterCook 24 program. Use the Restore from Backup tab to restore your backup files into MasterCook 24.
- If your cookbooks appear in the previous version after refreshing it, then something is blocking the MasterCook 24 Data Toolkit program from copying your data from the previous version of MasterCook. To fix this problem you need to follow the instructions below to add the two MasterCook 24 folders to the Microsoft Defender exclusion list. Then you can restore your data into MasterCook 24. Close the previous version of MasterCook. Then startup MasterCook 24. Select Backup from the top of the screen. When the MasterCook Data Toolkit program appears, close the main MasterCook 24 program. Use the Restore from MasterCook tab to restore your files from the previous version into MasterCook 24.
Adding MasterCook 24 to the Microsoft Defender Exclusion List
Follow the instructions below. These are the folders you should add to it:
- C:\Users\Public\Documents\MasterCook 24
- C:\Program Files (x86)\MasterCook 24
If you are not able to access the Microsoft Defender Antivirus as explained below, then that means you have a 3rd party antivirus program that is blocking your access to Microsoft Defender. You will need to add the two MasterCook 24 folders listed above to your antivirus exclusion list instead.
Use the Windows Search and type in exclusion. Then select Virus & threat protection.
Then select Manage settings underneath Virus & threat protection settings.
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and select Add or remove exclusions.
Select Yes in the dialog box that appears so you can make changes.
When the Exclusions screen appears select Add an exclusion.
Select Folder. Then navigate to this folder: C:\Users\Public\Documents\MasterCook 24 and select it.
It will then add that folder to the exclusions:
Repeat to add this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\MasterCook 24
Now both folders should be listed.
Then follow the instructions above to launch the MasterCook Data Toolkit from MasterCook 24. Close the main MasterCook 24 program. Use the Restore from MasterCook tab within the MasterCook Data Toolkit to copy your content from the previous version into MasterCook 24.
